Google Android

To establish a secure, encrypted Wi-Fi connection, digital certificates are used, which must be validated by certification authorities. These certification authorities are pre-installed on devices running Android 14 or later, and you can begin setup immediately; for older Android versions, you must first install the certification authorities manually (see below).

Settings > Network & Internet > Internet > Networks: eduroam

  • EAP method: PEAP
  • Phase 2 authentication: MS-CHAP v2
  • CA certificate: Use system certificates
  • Minimum TLS version: TLS v1.0
  • Online certificate status: Do not check
  • Domain: hs-woe.de (Note: This option is not available on all devices and can be ignored in that case)
  • Identity: Domain login (Format: ma1150@hs-woe.de)
  • Anonymous identity: <empty>
  • Password: <Your password>
  • Connect

Android versions 13 and older

Android operating systems in versions 13 and older are no longer provided with security updates by the manufacturer and are therefore end-of-life devices—for security reasons, they should no longer be used and should be replaced.

In Android 13 or older, you must first manually install the certificate authorities (CA certificates) into the operating system.

Depending on the device manufacturer, the installation of the certificate authorities varies slightly:

  • Search for the term “CA certificate” in the settings
  • Confirm any security warnings by indicating that you wish to install the certificate despite these warnings.
  • Follow the instructions and select the two downloaded files one after the other (usually located in the Downloads folder)
    • harica_tls_rsa_root_ca_2021_20210219.pem (if a name is requested: HARICA TLS RSA Root CA 2021)
    • geant_tls_rsa_1_20250103.pem (if a name is requested: GEANT TLS RSA 1)

After installing the certificate authorities, you can begin the setup (above).

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network despite the settings above, please try the following:

  • Tap and hold the eduroam network, then select “Remove Network”
  • Restart the device and re-establish the connection as described above.
