Clients

To use a virtual desktop you need

  • a program for your PC / an app for your smartphone - a so-called software client or.
  • a device that is able to access a virtual desktop - a so-called hardware client.

Software clients

After installation and configuration of a software client (see below) you get access to all virtual desktops provided for you in Pools after login.

Microsoft Windows

VMware Horizon Client for Desktops:

Once launched, configure the VMware Horizon Client for Desktops as follows:

  • Horizon connection server:
    • For students: vdi.jade-hs.de.
    • For staff: vd.jade-hs.de
  • Username: default login (form: ma1150)
  • Password: <your password>
  • Domain: HS-WOE

Apple macOS

VMware Horizon Client for Desktops:

  • Go to the VMware Horizon Clients web page.
  • In the “VMware Horizon Client for macOS” section, click “GO TO DOWNLOADS.”
  • Click on “DOWNLOAD NOW” and install the VMware Horizon Client.

After launching, configure VMware Horizon Client for desktops as follows:

  • Confirm that you really want to open the app by clicking the “Open” button.
  • Start remote USB and print services: click “Next”.
  • System extension blocked: Open the “Security” system setting
    • Click on the lock (bottom left) to edit.
    • Click the “Allow” button
    • Click on the lock again to protect it
    • Close the window
  • Access to accessibility
    • Click the “OK” button
  • Horizon Connection Server:
    • For students: vdi.jade-hs.com.
    • For staff: vd.jade-hs.de
  • Username: default login (form: ma1150)
  • Password: <your password>
  • Domain: HS-WOE

Ubuntu Linux

VMware Horizon Client for Desktops:

  • Go to the VMware Horizon Clients web page.
  • In the “VMware Horizon Client for 64-bit Linux” section, click “GO TO DOWNLOADS.”
  • Click on “DOWNLOAD NOW”.
  • Install the VMware Horizon Client using the following instructions:
cd Downloads/
chmod +x VMware-Horizon-Client*.bundle 
sudo apt install intel-media-va-driver intel-media-va-driver-non-free
# sudo apt install i965-va-driver i965-va-driver-shaders intel-media-va-driver intel-media-va-driver-non-free

# uninstall the old VMware-Horizon-Client
sudo ./VMware-Horizon-Client*.bundle -u vmware-horizon-client

# install VMware-Horizon-Client 
sudo ./VMware-Horizon-Client*.bundle

Components:

  • Smart Card: enabled
  • HTML5 Multimedia Redirection: enabled
  • VMware Horizon Virtualzation Pack for Skype for Business: disabled
  • Real-Time Audio-Video: enabled
  • Multimedia Redirection: enabled
  • VMware Integrated Printing: enabled
  • SerialPort Redirection: enabled
  • Scanner Redirection: enabled
  • USB Redirection: enabled
  • Client Drive Redirection: enabled
  • Register and start installed service(s) after the installation: enabled
  • click “Scan”: every important components should be installed
  • click “Close

Configure your client as follows:

  • Horizon Connection Server:
    • For students: vdi.jade-hs.de.
    • For staff: vd.jade-hs.de
  • Username: default login (form: ma1150)
  • Password: <your password>
  • Domain: HS-WOE

Apple iOS

From the Apple AppStore, download the “VMware Horizon Client” app to your Apple iPad/iPhone. Configure the app as follows:

  • Horizon Connection Server:
    • For students: vdi.jade-hs.de.
    • For staff: vd.jade-hs.de.
  • Username: default login (form: ma1150)
  • Password: <your password>
  • Domain: HS-WOE

Google Android

From the Google Play Store, download the “VMware Horizon Client” app to your Android mobile device. Configure the app as follows:

  • Horizon connection server:
    • For students: vdi.jade-hs.de.
    • For staff: vd.jade-hs.de.
  • Username: default login (form: ma1150)
  • Password: <your password>
  • Domain: HS-WOE
