Periodic inspections of portable electrical equipment in accordance with VDE 0701-0702, DGUV regulation 3 and TRBS 1201

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the operating safety regulation, portable electrical equipment must be checked repeatedly before initial commissioning and afterwards at certain intervals and the results must be documented.

Movable electrical equipment in connection with the university computing centre includes, for example, the following components:

  • Multiple sockets
  • Extension leads
  • IEC power supply lines for computers, monitors, printers
  • Power supplies
  • Desk lights, kettles, coffee machines
  • Mains operated measuring devices, soldering stations, power tools

The tests include the following:

  • Visual inspection for damage
  • Measurement of the protective conductor resistance
  • Measurement of insulation resistance
  • Measurement of the protective conductor current
  • Measurement of the touch current
  • Output voltage measurement (for power supplies)

The tests are carried out with a special, calibrated measuring device for the devices of the university computing centre.
