The following guidelines apply to the passwords of a user account:

  • minimum count of characters: 8 characters
  • distinction of upper and lower case letters (a - z, A - Z)
  • numeric characters are allowed (0 - 9)
  • non-alphanumeric characters are allowed (! + - )
  • non-alphabetical characters are not allowed (ä ö ü ß Ä Ö Ü)
  • no expiration date

Change and Reset of Passwords

We suggest to change your password right after the receipt of your login details. You should also change your password regularly.

You can change your password in our portal for passwords and make use of further possibilities to reset the password.

Please note that the change of the password has an impact on nearly all services. You will need to adjust your Wi-Fi access, your ownCloud and, potentially, your e-mail account.

You have forgotten your password?

In case you have forgotten your password, you can request another printout of your account data sheet in your local computing centre. You will need to bring your valid ID-card and sign a form by yourself. Forgotten passwords are not sent via e-mail, because we are not able to check your identity this way.

Alternatively, you can use the portal for passwords to activate different methods for password resets.
