Imaging
Imaging enables the operating system of a computer to be installed fully automatically via the network. All that is required is for the computer to be connected to the network via cable and for a so-called PXE boot process—the network-based loading process of a rudimentary boot kernel—to be set in the BIOS.
Hardware requirements
Due to the drivers implemented and the hardware detection implemented in the imaging, the hardware that can be used is limited to the following devices.
Dell Latitude 7440 Dell Latitude 7450 Dell OptiPlex 5000 Dell OptiPlex 5060 Dell OptiPlex 5070 Dell OptiPlex 5080 Dell OptiPlex 5090 Dell OptiPlex 7060 Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra Dell OptiPlex 7090 Dell OptiPlex 7090 UFF Dell OptiPlex Micro Plus 7010 Dell OptiPlex Micro Plus 7020 Dell OptiPlex SFF Plus 7010 Dell OptiPlex SFF Plus 7020 Dell OptiPlex Tower Plus 7010 Dell OptiPlex Tower Plus 7020 Dell Precision 3630 Tower Dell Precision 3640 Tower Dell Precision 3660 Dell Precision 3680 Dell Precision 5820 Tower Dell Precision 5820 Tower X-Series Dell Precision 5860 Tower Dell Precision 7920 Tower Dell Pro 13 Premium PA13250 Dell Pro 14 Plus PB14250 Dell Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250 Dell Pro Micro Plus QBM1250 Dell Pro Slim Plus QBS1250 Dell Pro Tower Plus QBT1250
Imaging variants
In the pool rooms, the computers are installed with software distribution, i.e., the ZENworks Software menu. The computers are automatically added to the domain and assigned to the appropriate groups in Active Directory.
Images are available in the network system for installing a workstation computer, which also install the software distribution. It is essential to select the correct (image) project, otherwise the system will be imported incorrectly and malfunctions will occur! It is generally recommended to delete the HDDs via the BIOS before imaging, update the firmware, and configure the BIOS settings for each specific device. It is also possible to image PC systems or notebooks that are not to be imported into the PC network system; separate projects (OS images) are available for this purpose.
ATTENTION: Imaging will result in all data on the hard drives being irretrievably deleted.
Since the introduction of NVMe SSDs in conjunction with Windows 11, imaging is only possible in UEFI mode.
Older computers (790/7010/7020) can no longer be imaged or are blocked for this purpose because they do not meet the system requirements for Windows 11.
